What Changed
Update 44 adds a new Riven Mod control called Trait Locking. It is designed for players who want to preserve one specific Riven stat while continuing to Cycle the rest of the Mod.
The feature is live in Update 44. Riven Splicing is a separate system announced for a later release with Glacial Defiance.
Patch Impact
Trait Locking changes Riven Cycling by letting one chosen stat remain fixed while the rest of the Riven is rerolled. The official tradeoff is resource cost: Cycling with a locked trait uses double Kuva. The lock itself can be added or removed for free.
Who Is Affected
This feature affects players who actively Cycle Riven Mods and want to preserve one existing stat during rerolls. Players who do not use a lock can continue Cycling Rivens normally.
How Riven Trait Locking Works
- Open the Mod Segment in your Base of Operations.
- Select the Riven Mod you want to Cycle.
- Choose Lock Trait.
- Select the one trait you want to preserve.
- Cycle the Riven. The locked trait remains fixed while the other eligible values change.
Riven Trait Locking Kuva Cost
There is no cost to add or remove the lock itself. The tradeoff appears when you Cycle: the official Update 44 notes state that Cycling a Riven with a locked trait costs double Kuva.
Important Limits
- Only one trait can be locked at a time.
- The lock does not persist after the Riven Cycling menu is closed, so it must be selected again when you return.
- When a trait is locked, the number of positive and negative traits on that Riven stays fixed during the Cycle. To change the number of traits, Cycle again with no trait locked.
What Players Should Do
- Open the Mod Segment and choose the Riven you want to Cycle.
- Select Lock Trait and choose the one stat you want to preserve.
- Check the doubled Kuva Cycling cost before confirming the reroll.
- If you close the Cycling menu and return later, select the lock again because it does not persist between menu sessions.
Compared With Previous Patch
The official Update 44 notes describe Trait Locking as a newly added Riven feature. Before this update, the patch notes do not describe an option to preserve one chosen Riven stat during Cycling. Update 44 adds that control while attaching the doubled Kuva cost when a lock is used.
Player Impact
Trait Locking gives players more control over Riven Cycling because a desirable stat can be preserved while the remaining traits are rerolled. The cost is higher Kuva consumption, so the feature is most useful when keeping one existing trait is worth paying the doubled Cycling cost.
