TL;DR
Marvel Rivals’ new Chain-CC Protection system activates after heavy crowd control pressure, clearing active CC and granting Tenacity. It can build up to full CC immunity, but some cinematic CC abilities bypass parts of the system. The feature is part of the 20260417 balance update.
What Changed
- Chain-CC Protection was introduced in Season 7.5 and now has explicit rules in the balance post.
- It activates if a Hero:
- suffers 5.5 seconds of total CC duration, or
- is hit by 6 CC effects within a 7-second window.
- When it triggers, it:
- instantly purges all active CC effects, and
- grants 30% Tenacity for 3 seconds.
- Tenacity reduces incoming CC duration proportionally.
- While Tenacity is active, each new CC effect:
- increases Tenacity by 10%, and
- extends the buff by 0.5 seconds.
- If Tenacity reaches 100%, the Hero becomes completely CC immune until the buff expires.
- During full immunity, incoming CC does not add more Tenacity or extend the immunity duration.
- Certain animation-driven CC effects, including Emma Frost’s Carbon Crush and Monster Hulk’s World Breaker, bypass the system.
- Standard CC applied during those cinematic moves is cleared and Tenacity is applied only after the cinematic ability ends.
- The system has a 5-second cooldown that starts when the final Tenacity effect expires.
Player Impact
Chain-CC Protection is meant to stop long stun-lock chains and keep fights moving. For players, that means repeated CC pressure can now trigger a reset and temporary protection instead of leaving a Hero locked down indefinitely.
The practical effect is strongest in fights where multiple CC effects land in a short window. Once the protection activates, the target gets a brief window of reduced CC duration, and continued CC can eventually push them to full immunity. At the same time, cinematic CC abilities are treated differently, so players should not assume every control effect is reduced or interrupted in the same way.
